Apple appears to be getting ready to enter the foldable smartphone segment, and a new leak has now revealed what its first foldable iPhone could look like. According to reports, Apple’s foldable iPhone may launch later this year, bringing a fresh take on foldable phone design.
Foldable iPhone design details
As reported by MacRumors, a leak shared on Weibo suggests that Apple’s first foldable iPhone will feature a book-style folding design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series.
The leak claims that:
- The volume buttons will be positioned on the top edge, aligned to the right, similar to the iPad mini
- The power button with Touch ID and the Camera Control button will be placed on the right side
- The left edge of the device will remain completely clean, with no buttons
Camera and display changes
On the front, the foldable iPhone is expected to feature a single punch-hole selfie camera, which could result in a smaller Dynamic Island compared to current iPhone models.
At the back, Apple may use an iPhone Air–style camera plateau with:
- Two horizontally arranged cameras
- A microphone and LED flash
- A fully black camera module, regardless of the phone’s body colour
Leaks also suggest that the foldable iPhone could launch in just two colour options — white and one additional colour.
Touch ID makes a comeback
According to Jeff Pu (via 9to5Mac), Apple may skip Face ID on its first foldable iPhone and instead bring back Touch ID. This would be a notable change, especially for a flagship device introducing a new form factor.
Display sizes
- 7.8-inch inner foldable display
- 5.3-inch cover screen for quick tasks without unfolding the phone
Performance and hardware highlights
The leaked specifications also point to a premium setup:
- Dual 48MP rear cameras
- 18MP selfie cameras on both the inner and outer displays
- A body made from a titanium and aluminium combination
- 12GB LPDDR5 RAM
- Apple’s new C2 modem for connectivity
Final thoughts
If these leaks turn out to be accurate, Apple’s foldable iPhone won’t just follow existing trends. With Touch ID’s return, a refined foldable design, and premium hardware, Apple seems ready to approach the foldable category in its own distinct way.
This device could mark Apple’s most significant iPhone design shift in years.
